A.O. Scott had this to say about Keanu's latest in today's New York Times:
First, ouch. I'm glad I had nothing to do with the film. And it sure is nice to see a major media outlet actually telling you what it thinks instead of reheating the movie's press release.
Second, I just love the way he pairs and contrasts adjectives — stylized, expressionistic and eerie, dreamy versus sticky, murky and secondhand.
I think I think I'm pretty sure which set of adjectives he likes better.
Based on the DC/Vertigo comic book "Hellblazer," [Constantine] tries for a stylized, expressionistic pop grandeur - the kind of eerie, dreamy visual environment that made the first "Matrix" so intriguing - but its look is sticky, murky and secondhand.
